Registering .ws Domain Names

There are quite a few commonly available domain extensions out there, and one of the more recent ones is .WS, which stands for — you guessed it — “Web site.” Originally, of course, dotWS was (and is) the country-code top-level domain name (ccTLD) for the Pacific island nation of Western Samoa — now simply known as “Samoa.” As such, dotWS domains are particularly useful for individuals and companies that reside or do business in Samoa or adjacent parts of the South Pacific Ocean. However, as anyone can register a .ws name, it’s also an obvious choice for registrants who are looking for a domain name that’s catchy and stands out a bit from the ubiquitous .com names on the Web.

dotWS domain names can contain 3-63 characters, including letters (a to z), numbers (0 to 9), and hyphens (except at the beginning or end of the domain name). You cannot register domain names with special characters, such as & and #.

Here’s how to register your very own .ws domain name:

Go to the Go Daddy Web site; then enter the domain you want to register in the Domain Search Field.

Select .ws from the list of available extensions.

Click Go, and then complete your purchase.
